  • A subfamily of herons, of the family Ardeidæ, represented by the single genus Cancroma, characterized not only by the form of the bill (see Cancroma), but also by the possession of 4 instead of 3 or 2 powder-down tracts: a group sometimes elevated to the rank of a family.
