  • Ceci = Italian for chickpeas (garbanzos).

  • "Ceci n'est pas une pipe": my pipe is a nest full of chickpeas.

  • Yes, I know that ceci beans is technically redundant, but this is how I grew up calling them, and it's what I write on my grocery list. :) I would rather call them cecis than anything else.

    September 18, 2008

  • :-) You can read garbanzo beans on many cans, so why not ceci beans? By the way, how do you pronounce ceci?

    September 18, 2008

  • Me personally? Or how does one say it? I say CHEH-chee.

BTW, Pro, is the singular version ceci in Italian? Or is it cece and ceci is plural?

    September 19, 2008

  • Good question chai_bea. I defer to the experts because I've only ever heard it in the plural. Hard to make a good hommus from one pea!

    September 19, 2008

  • Well... yeah, that's why I asked Pro. :)

    September 19, 2008

  • Cece is the singular... by the way, this is also the etymology of Cicero's name ("chickpea nose").

    September 19, 2008

  • Thanks for the info, Prolagus. :) In addition to being the etymology of "Cicero," it's also going to be the name of my next pet.

If it suits her, I mean.

  • Your pronunciation of ceci is correct*, chained_bear!

(*where correct means "the one native Italians use")

    September 19, 2008

  • That's good to know. It's how I say it too. :-)
