  • A natural order of polypetalous exogens, consisting of shrubs or trees of temperate and tropical regions, allied to the Rhamnaceæ, from which they differ especially in having the stamens opposite to the sepals, and in the arillate seeds. The most prominent genera are Celastrus and Euonymus, the stafftree and spindle-tree (which see).
