  • In Sundevall's classification of birds, the first phalanx of the cohort Cichlomorphæ, embracing seven families of Oscines having booted tarsi, such as the thrushes, nightingales, European redstarts and redbreasts, American bluebirds, the chats, dippers, etc.: so called from the fusion of the tarsal envelop into a continuous boot, or ocrea.
