  • A family of short-tailed ten-footed crustaceans, typified by the genus Portunus, containing many crabs, some of whose legs are fitted for swimming, known as paddle-crabs, shuttle-crabs, and swimming-crabs. See cuts under paddle-crab and Platyonychus.
