Thank you. I added hernia to Verba Tuberum. The English definition of hernia is an expansion of the Latin one (i.e. rupture).
-
I believe the winning word (not my own) was cymbidium. I would have gotten this word right if I didn't already misspell malfeasance. I had never heard of malfeasance before in my life, and missing that word was such a wrongdoing.
-
Pro, that reminds me of something my grandfather used to say: "Railroad crossing without any cars. Can you spell that without any R's?"
-
How hard can it be? B-E-E. Done.
-
Congratulations, Word! :-) Ah, I remember the fun days of spelling bees...I believe I managed as far as fourth in the state in my day as well.
Don't ask how long ago it was. ;-)
I have the same question as PossU: what was the winning word?
-
Congrats! Do you remember the winning word?
-
Yes, quite an honour! I had never heard of a spelling bee until after I left school , and I bitterly regret not being able to take part in one. They look like fun.
-
Congratulations!
-
I have achieved 4th place in the California State Spelling Bee!
I might post a list of all the words later.
-
Thanks, Wordplayer. I like insignia; chandeliers is good too. Appreciate your input...

NO! My least favorite word has come back in antonym form!!!
-
That's impropitious.

It is a series of words I added to the "brang, bring, brung" list from ruzuzu. Sorry, I am not attempting to post links.

Hi Quinn--saw your comment on feedback. Happy to help, but could you give me some more details? By suggestion, do you mean a word you added to a list, or a comment? I was just able to add and delete both, including adding and removing multi-word phrases from lists, which had been causing problems earlier.
-
Thanks hernesheir!
-
Quinn - you're a remarkable fellow.
Re: tourmaline - Many published (and some very common) mineral names such as tourmaline in use before the 1959 baseline set by the International Mineralogical Association are not considered "valid" unless and until they have been judged "grandfathered" by convention. If I did not list "tourmaline" in months past when I was listing panvocalic/euvocalic mineral names, it is because that name was not at that point considered a valid name, or because I just missed that obvious term. By the way, there are currently 14 different minerals in the complex "tourmaline" mineral series whose names are considered valid.

Thanks for finding heterodyne. What a great word!
-
Thanks! I know my account can be found on google, but I'm not umcomfortable with it.

Hi Wordplayer, and welcome to Wordnik.
I just wanted to let you know that Wordnik is indexed on Google so if people google your name they will find this page. Most of us feel more comfortable using a sobriquet (or soubriquet) instead of their real name.
Have fun!
