Finally, the Balkan pine vole Microtus felteni Malec & Storch, 1963 is of special interest with regard to recently named European mammals in that it is endemic to the former Yugoslavian province of Macedonia, an area where there are a further two endemic mammals: the Balkan or Stankovic’s mole T. stankovici and the Balkan short-tailed mouse Mus macedonicus.
