  • In phytogeography, of a more or less coarse-grained sandy consistency: said of soils. Thurmann, the author of the term (1849), further distinguished psammogenous soils into perpsammic, hemipsammic, and oligopsammic, and named transitional states pelopsammic. Compare pelogenous.
