  • noun In botany, a spindle-shaped or acicular body, chemically related to the plastids, which occurs in certain cells of plants exhibiting irritability, such as Drosera, Dionæa, etc., and which probably plays an important part in this function. The position in the cell is such that it stretches diagonally across the cell from end to end.
