I do have to say I think Bystander is wrong on this one, and that the sentencing was wrong as well.

But as Bystander is often obliged to remind his commentators (including several police bloggers, who know who they are), the judiciary are obliged to subordinate their personal feelings to the letter and spirit of the law.
