I am not sure the exact reason currently -- I did a few tests and the opening in Endcap will be displayed again by doing the following steps:

In 2010, the endcap-related tools are on the Wall contextual ribbon tab, on the Endcap panel, but AecWallEndcap is not one of them.

I copy that to a new drawing (in my case I pick a default template to play with) and now the opening Endcap can be seen in 3d view (see attached drawing for an example) p.s. I also noticed that the insulation graphic was lost when i edit the Endcap profile but I am not if that is related to this issue

I remove the existing opening Endcap and recreate one (I use Edit in-place, pick the opening endcap and edit; retrace the Endcap profile and save as new one).
