I suppose you could make the argument that everything that can be done with the desktop paradigm has been done, and Ubuntu/Gnome is just pulling in the best of both worlds … but at least call it what it is.

Gnome is in a 2.2, almost 2.4 release, and the GTK toolkit has been around now for years, and the clipboard still doesn't work "properly" for text (we're not even talking about graphics here yet)!

Some interesting notes about the visual programming languages which are cool but in Gnome we already have things like little wizard for that – and weirdly my son isn’t very keen on them – he has the same desire I had at the time which was to make the computer do something rather than just watch icons fly around.
