Particularly because their popularity has given rise to cheap knockoffs of the original "Nalgene" brand bottles (the laboratory versions of which have been analyzed to death), I'm not sure how much better they are on the leachate front than the disposible bottles, but the widemouth design does make the periodically washing needed to wipe out the inevitable bacterial growth whole lot easier.
