CSI is very enjoyable for almost every TV-viewer, with a hint of mystery, drama & crime in every corner of our favourite characters, plots & episodes. when they decide to let grissom go permently i know nobody is going to watch it anymore.

That's almost always the extent of it, and it's the sort of news that passes right through the consciousness without any real impact -- your average American TV-viewer will almost certainly not be able to recount any of the details of the feature an hour later, maybe some half-remembered piece about "we killed a bunch more bad guys in Eye-rack or someplace."
