  • noun A mineral of a brownish-black or reddish-brown color, isomorphous with augite, consisting of bisilicate of iron, sesquioxid of iron, soda, and alumina: so called from the form of its crystals. It is found in Norway, and also in Transylvania. Also spelled achmite.
