In my day, we had a Special Admissions program limited (as I recall) to 10 or 20% of the student body for all categories of special admittees: children of alums; geographic, ethnic, racial diversity; athletes; low income applicants, veterans, and the “unusually and non-athletically acomplished with ho-hum SAT scores.”
