The only three options are: 1. Scale the image anamorphically; that is, you stretch it or squish it a little so it fits.

Without getting all technical, anamorphically enhanced means that it has been remastered so, when shown on a widescreen TV, the picture will be formatted correctly, the black bars will disappear.

This movie is apparently now in the public domain and thus available from many different labels, but we haven't seen better than the Warner Home Video release, which offers the film in a choice of standard ratio (open aperture) or anamorphically enhanced widescreen (a beautifully composed matted image).
