Are you familiar at all with punkin chunkin'? They have a website too. I like mangold hurling much better, but still--in the annals of vegetable pitching societies, you really can't avoid mentioning punkin chunkin'...ing.

I vaguely recall having a huge long Wordiesque conversation about punkin chunkin', but I would have suspected it were on that page, and 'tisn't. Hm.
