It is perhaps sufficient to mention two of the most famous works in this chain which bear the same title: Conrad Gesner's Mithridates of 1555 (with the Lord's Prayer in twenty-two lan - guages) and J. - C. Adelung's Mithridates in four vol - umes, of 1806-17), with the Lord's Prayer “in almost five hundred languages and dialects” (W. von Hum - boldt took part in this effort).
