- A group of physostomatous or malacopterygian fishes, supposed to be intermediate between Clupeidæ and Esocidæ, and made to contain the genera Chirocentrus, Notopterus, Osteoglossum, Heterotis, and Arapaima, which in modern systems mostly belong to different families.
