As a teenager in 1975 I migrant-worked on the Hawaiian island of Lanai planting and picking pineapples, when "Louie's" was the only tiny store on the whole island. From Louie I bought and brought home a great T-shirt depicting a ferocious fighting cock surrounded by a cartouche with such words as "Lanai Cock-fighters' Union Local 69", and other identifying marks. The words and "cock" and "69" were so offensive to my mother that she hid and disposed of the shirt when she did my laundry upon my returning. That's what moms do.
