  • noun A name suggested by Lacroix, in connection with studies of Mont Pelé, in Martinique, for steep cones or columns built up of masses of viscous or relatively infusible lavas which have been forced out from below the earth's surface and have been heaped up without moving far, if at all, from the vent.
