Morrao is a small plateau that rises right up out of the valley and is the highest point around that offers spectacular views of the chapada to teh north and south and, rolling green hills to the west and the flat lowlands to the east. on the way back up, with light quickly fading i had to make astrong push for the summit as i could see a storm rolling in. the ascent back up was tough as the steep slope proved much more difficult with the extra weight. at points it is literally scambling up sheer rock faces with the huge drop below. i reached the top just as it got dark. the rain began so i quickly set about sorting shelter. i hadnt planned on sleeping out in the open, i was expecting the shelter of a cave or trees and so i hadnt the rain sheet of my tent. with some sticks, ropes and rocks i turned the groundsheet into a canopy and slept under it. i was nestled in under this as teh storm rolled over with driving rain and the sky lighting up all around me with each flash of lightening, followed shortly by the deafing roar of thunder. as the highest thing around i sat carefully calcultating the point at which id go and find a cave to hide in for fear of lightening, but luckily it didnt come to that!
