I might happily concede that objecting to these kind of “ceremonial deisms” (and I note that Eugene’s nose is too stuck in the law in this area to be able to evaluate the notion of the “ceremonial deism” in light of a sound theory of language or meaning) is not exactly as credible as objecting to slavery.
