A fruit (or seed, or diaspore) adapted to dispersal by ocean currents. Variously furnished with air cavities, corky tissues that act as floats, or other means to prevent water-logging and preserve intact the embryo. Some float for years before washing up on distant shores, covered with barnacles, ready to germinate.
