In book printing, a large folio, measuring about 23 by 28 inches. Double elephant folio refers to an even larger folio size, measuring about 26 1/2 x 39 inches. Some of Audubon's books (and few other books) were printed on this scale, so "double elephant folio" has become synonomous with Audubon's work.
