aka bum bag. In Australia, one of the places where they are known as bum bags, it is not only a faux pas to wear one, but it is an even bigger faux pas to call it a fanny pack, since fanny is slang for female genitals.

True. My Aussie friends were tickled to death when, back in the states, I got a role as a comic character (a blacksmith's daughter) named Fanny Ironbottom.
p.s. they also, for similar reasons, find the name of a sewer-repair service utterly hilarious: Roto-Rooter.

Here we have a suburb called Fannie Bay. Well, a bay too I guess. As if that wasn't enough, it has given its name to a seat in the Legislative Assembly. In fact just last Saturday we elected a new Member for Fannie Bay.
