i was going to comment on that fernholz critique arguing the same overall point taibbi makes here. the most important of these disputes have to do with theory/ideology, not the facts themselves. the ‘conspiracy theory’ thing you pull out is a case in point. the difference between “ridiculous cabal” and “group-think and structural influences” is the difference between indictment and apologetics.
