  • noun In some hydroid polyps, as Plumularia, a tentacle-like projection of the cœnosarc, bearing thread-cells, or adhesive globules, and surrounded by a hydrotheca. It has, probably, a nutritive function, serving to catch food. Also nematophore, sarcotheca, and machopolyp.
