Perhaps the most important oversight in the Times piece is the fact that that Taylor’s “new” suggestion — a “hetero-optimism” that addresses the ills of heterosexuality while retaining hope for a better future — is in fact not new at all: it’s a feminist project with an intellectual and political history spanning centuries, a project to which countless women (and people of all genders, for that matter) have dedicated their lives.
