  • noun A coal-tar color related to anthracene made by fusing beta-amino-anthraquinone with caustic potash. It dyes cotton and other vegetable fibers in a hyposulphite reduction-vat and gives very fast blues. When combined with flavanthrene it gives one of the fastest greens known.
