He uses the example of a VCR, which allows us to consume shows by taping them rather than spending the time to watch them ourselves: As Žižek writes in the 2006 book How to Read Lacan (and who knows how many other places), “it is the object itself that enjoys the show instead of me, relieving me of the duty to enjoy myself.”
