Nobody actually uses Eire. If one needs to make it clear that the whole island is not in question, the standard term is (the) Republic of Ireland, or the Irish Republic.
Unless you happen to be an Ulster Unionist, in which case I believe the expression is the Irish Free State, or possibly the papist state.
