  • noun A termination of adjectives of Latin or Greek origin or type, from nouns or adjectives in -ite, as in anthracitic, dendritic, hematitic, pyritic, etc., and Hamitic, Semitic, etc. It is sometimes used without an intermediate form in -ite. In granitic the termination is -ite + -ic.
