  • A family of acanthopterygian fishes, represented by the genus Liparis, embracing cottoids with oblong or elongated antrorsiform body, the head unarmed and enveloped by the skin, a long dorsal fin with anterior spines scarcely differentiated, a long anal fin, and ventrals united to form a circular sucker.
  • A family of bombycid moths, typified by the genus Liparis (named in the form Liparidæ by Boisduval in 1834), having the proboscis short or obsolete, and the female rarely wingless.
