• noun A small genus of red seaweeds, typical of the tribe Lomentarieæ, having filamentous, branching, hollow fronds with constricted joints formed of one or more layers of roundish-angular cells, with a few longitudinal filaments in the center, tripartite tetraspores, and external sessile cystocarps.
