longarm

This quilt might actually get quilted sometime soon by my friend Lana - it's fairly big, and it wants an all-over pattern, so it makes sense to longarm quilt it.

A miscellany of Thursday katelnorth 2008

Personally, my knowledge of FMQ comes from learning to use a longarm machine (which I was taught in person), combined with loads of conversations, both IRL and online about the subject, and then lots of practice, so I wasn't able to help very much - but I know a lot of you probably can recommend books or DVDs on the topic, or conversely, say which ones were less helpful - more specialist, or whatever.

This time it was a different finger, and I did it on the longarm while trying to baste the batting down across the top of the piece (see, the batting was all puffy and I was trying to keep it poked down under the needle while basting and ... you can see where this is going, right?)

I can't say I'm totally thrilled with it - it would be much better on the longarm - but it's ok, and well, you gotta start somewhere.

But I thought I'd share some photos of the quilt tops I have taken to Lana for her to quilt on her longarm - I have resolved to try to get some of my many tops quilted, so here's my start.

I had a day on the longarm machine today, which is good - my goal for this year is to get at least 10 quilts longarm quilted (as opposed to small quilts, wallhangings, baby quilts, anything I do on the regular machine).
