• noun A mineral occurring in glassy white or yellowish hexagonal crystals or grains in volcanic rocks, as on Monte Somma, Vesuvius (the variety sommite), and also in masses with greasy luster and a dark greenish or reddish color (the variety eLæolite). It is a silicate of aluminium, sodium, and potassium. Also nephelite.
