As the chronology explains, there is an entire constellation of non-Member bodies attached to the UN, including recognized nations who do not happen to be Members (the Vatican, and Switzerland), nation wannabees who have gotten enough attention to earn respect but are not taken seriously as nations (SWAPO), non-governmental aid organizations like the Red Cross and Doctors Without Borders, a variety of African anti-colonialist groups, and others.
