Describes the postal agency of one country located in another country, usually because of the latter's unreliable local postal network. In China and the Turkish Empire especially, many foreign nations maintained their own postal systems as part of their extraterritorial powers. The offices usually used special stationery and stamps; the stamps were commonly overprinted for these offices, mainly by the country maintaining the office.
