  • noun A genus of fossil gastropods having shells composed of numerous rapidly expanding, rounded, closely coiled whorls with small low spire and thickened reflexed inner lip; the Diaphorostoma. The genus is represented by numerous species ranging from Silurian to Carboniferous, and is specially abundant in the Lower Devonian formations. Properly Platystoma.
