  • noun In a planing-machine, a device for holding down lumber to be planed.
  • noun In car-building, an iron bar which connects the draw-bar with the buffer-spring and unites the draft-spring with it so that either may be used to relieve the other. It also serves to control the buffer-plate and keep it in position between the cars when they are in motion.
