• An order of reptiles, established by Seeley, which contains extinct species of primitive structure, intermediate in this respect between the anomodonts and higher forms. Paired prevomers and ectopterygoids are present, as well as free epiotics. The vertebræ are amphicœlous and perforated by the notochord. The only known genus is Procolophon, from the Trias of South Africa.
