• noun A stage in the development of the parasite, Laverania malariæ, of pernicious malaria. It is a gregarine-like body resulting from the union of a microgamete with a macrogamete and is actively motile, making its way into the wall of the intestine of its host, the mosquito (Anopheles), where it becomes encysted and later divides into a large number of minute sporozoites.
