- noun In New Zealand, a name applied to Rymandra excelsa, a tree belonging to the Proteaceæ. It has boat-like seed-pods, and yields a handsome wood, mottled red and brown, highly prized for cabinet-work and furniture. In other island groups names of the same origin are applied to other trees having seeds which float on the water.
