  • noun A bitter crystalline glucoside, C29H52O20, found in the seeds of the sapodilla-plum, or Sapota Zapotilla. When hydrolyzed by dilute sulphuric acid it yields glucose and saporetin. It melts at 240° C., has a burning taste, and attacks the eyes and nose strongly.
