  • noun A piece of apparatus, much used in chemical laboratories, consisting of a vessel, commonly of sheet-copper, with double walls between which steam is caused to circulate, a practically fixed temperature being thus maintained in the interior of the vessel where materials to be dried or otherwise affected by heat are placed.
