I am so happy to see this post ... the reason is that I noticed the recipe for "ravan pithale" in the Marathi cookbook "Ruchira" a few weeks ago and was really amazed that while the ingredients were ordinary ones, the proportions were bizarre - I honestly thought it was a typo to be using 1/2 vaati chilli powder etc.

i have a question. for sambar, amma sent me sambar powder she made at home. puli vanginen ingaye. toram parupu vanginen. but im at a loss to know how much thoram parupu to how much puli to how much sambar powder. experiment pannarthe, rendu vaati nanna vandudu. rendu vaati kanna pinna-nu pulichi vazhinjidu.
