Several major works of historical scholarship date from this era, including Samguk sagi (History of the Three Kingdoms) by Kim Pu-sik (1075–1151), a thoroughly Confucian work written in the Chinese annalistic style; and Samguk yusa (Memorabilia of the Three Kingdoms) by the Buddhist monk Iryn (1206–89), which traced Korean history back to the legendary Tan'gun.
