I suppose working up a ramp from zero-g flights on aircraft to actual spaceflight is probably the only way we'd be able to acclimate everyone ... maybe.

Personally I wouldn't mind the Moon not being an immediate priority, if that meant for instance NASA developing a massive LEO and GEO infrastructure for Earth Observation (think modular man-tended EO platforms like Space stations early designs), or power generation (making SPS a reality), or still - actual - zero-g research, or still research for real new technologies of in-orbit habitats (recycling and so on).
